Dr's Appointment
So everything is going well. The bean is measuring 38 weeks and will be 38 weeks on Saturday, so everything is on track. We are Group B Strep Negative and her heart bpm was 152 :)
Good morning!
So this Am I either had a fun bout of cleansing diarrhea or just a fun bout of regular diarrhea. Either way it wasn't any fun. Hopefully we are making strides and getting closer to the end. I am super tired as well. I officially have no more visits for work and have tomorrow as a paperwork day and next week (if we make it baby-free that long) for writing reports and finishing things up. My last 'day' of work is going to be February 5th and then my leave starts!
Today, in an hour, we have our 37 week appointment to see how the little bean is doing :) I love going and hearing her heartbeat and and each visit brings me a week closer to getting to meet her for the first time. :0)

Was she just practicing?
Prodromal Labor....
Prodromal labor isn't all in vain. These annoying contractions condition the uterus, and prepare the cervix for dilation and effacement. In fact, sometimes the cervix may even dilate and efface as a result. It’s all about your body preparing for the big day. Let’s talk about the differences between Prodromal labor and the real thing.
1. Prodromal ‘labor’ may begin hours or days (and do I dare say weeks?) before active labor.
2. They may feel like Braxton Hicks contractions but sometimes they can be much stronger.
3. Unlike true labor, where contractions usually become longer, stronger and closer together, prodromal contractions are irregular in duration, length and intensity.
4. They may have a pattern and show up about the same time every day (or night).
5. They will stop after 2-3 hours..
6. They may or may not be affected by your activity. Sometimes a warm bath will make them go away, and on other days, it may run it’s usual course - leaving you to wonder if *this time* it’s truly the real thing!
7. Your cervix may begin to dilate, and efface and you may lose your mucous plug. Nothing false about that!
Many women head to the hospital only to find out after a few hours that it was 'false labor'. In other words, the contractions stopped. You may have dilated, or effaced but they stopped. Being sent home can be emotionally confusing. You are left to wonder how you will know when it *is* the real thing. You might be embarrassed to head back up to the hospital the next time, and then you wonder about giving birth on the side of the road! (For those of you birthing at home, the scenario might be different of course...but for sake of time and length, I'll let you fill in your own scenario blanks).
Most women figure it out. It may take more than one trip to the hospital (or call to the midwife), but don't worry.. eventually you'll end up in true labor that will produce a real baby. Most care providers are used to this type of labor, and would rather you be seen if you feel the need, then miss your birth all together. Typically in true labor, the contractions will become stronger, longer (in length), and closer together. With Prodromal labor, contractions might be 30 seconds one time, and a minute long the next, followed by another one that is 45 seconds. You might have one at 7:00, another at 7:10, one at 7:12, and then another at 7:20. The pattern is usually inconsistant.
Another thing to consider is can you make them go away? Can you stop the contraction by changing your postion? Will they slow down with a warm bath or shower? What about if you eat or drink? Now with Braxton Hix Contractions, these things will usually make them go away. The problem with Prodromal labor is that sometimes these things can make them go away, but sometimes it does nothing. However, you should always have an idea in an hour or two. Most women do not have labors that fast, and if they do, they almost always figure it out in time!
So relax - and let your body do its work. You may find your labor easier, and perhaps a bit faster if you were blessed with prodromal labor. Take advantage of these contractions and practice your relaxation, breathing or whatever you plan to use to cope with labor.

What a weekend!
So the summary.... saturday night i was up all night throwing up and diarrhea all night and no sleep. Then no appetite all day sunday with on and off contraction (BH style), then that evening at 6-8pm had contraction every 4-5 minutes (lasting about 45 sec-1 min) but no pain just tightening and pressure. They were regular, just not painful. I went to bed that night and was able to sleep through the night from being so exhausted from not sleeping that much in the past few days. Had contractions through the night but mild to the point where the tightening allowed me to sleep through it. I woke up this morning and was having more painful contractions with cramping ...so they were longer (over 1 minute, ave 1.25 min), stronger, but futher apart than last night. So I called the OB.GYN and they said to take it easy, drink a lot of water, and call back if they get to be 5-6 min apart. So I relaxed, then walked around the house, did a load or 2 of laundry, and sat back down. The contractions were now 10 min apart. Now they have pretty much slowed down to only a contractions every now and then.....so a flu bug and false labor?
Still going...
So we went to bed last night with contractions about 4-5 minutes apart, but just a lot of pressure and tightening. We were able to sleep through the night since they were so mild. I woke up this am and stated timing them again...now they are about 8 minutes apart but are more uncomfortable and lasting longer. Still haven't figured out if this is "it" or not...will it go away? Will we progress? We will see :)
Called MOGA and they had the nurse call me back. She said to keep relaxing, drink a lot of water, and call when the contractions are 5-6 minutes apart with the same strength and discomfort for over a minute that are happening an hour or more.
We are at about 8 minutes now lasting about 1 min and a quarter...

Could this be it ?
Hey little bean!
So last night I wasn't feeling very well and was throwing up and "cleansing both ends" We didn't get much sleep. After everything calmed down a little the contractions were more noticeable but very infrequent without a pattern. Today I have been trying to drink a lot of water but was feeling queasy and didn't eat much. Still contractions on and off but almost Braxton style tightening mostly. Also in frequent. Then at about 5:58 they started coming closer, but once again still not painful--just tight VERY tight. From 5:58-7:58 they stayed about 4-5 minutes apart and then we decided to take a shower/tub. Now they are a bit more uncomfortable (slight crampiness and a little back pain-still mild but now happening). We might have to go tonight will keep posting....

37 weeks
So...this is the final stretch....3 more weeks until the EDD...
I think you might be dropping as I am definitely feeling uncomfortable pressure low down and also you seem to be in the correct position. http://www.spinningbabies.com/baby-positions/all-positions/left-occiput-anterior I charted where your tooshie sticks out (bulge) and I feel flutter, kicks, stretches, and movement. Mary the midwife said your head is down and it has been for awhile now. We cannot wait to meet you--it could be soon-any day now :)
Still working on getting the childcare set-up, meeting/interviewing tons of new families, and working on making sure we get everything all set for the inspection.
Love you lots,
xoxo

36 weeks
Hello Bean,
I can't believe you are 36 weeks today. You are growing so fast...it feels like we just found out we were pregnant and started this wonderful journey. I will miss getting to feel you move around inside me and protect and care for you, but we also CANNOT wait to meet you. We can't wait to see what you look like, who you remind us of, and what your personality is like. We are so excited to share the world with you and car for and snuggle you.
Wondering when you will decide to bless us with your birth ....
We love you so much!
xoxo

Hey Lilah Bean!
I know it has been awhile but I have been reallllllly busy! I talk to you daily as does your daddy....We are busily trying to get ready for the childcare, interviewing families for enrollment, meeting the aid that will help us everyday and getting everything all set up. We had our Baby Showers---home (January 23rd @2pm and church after church on the 24th). Also we are trying to get everything prepared for you-your cosleeper set up in our room, the hospital bag packed for you and us, your diapers washed, the room set-up, car seats installed (still have to have them inspected by police or fire dept), putting away baby shower presents, returning and buying the remaining needed things, and making sure we go to birthing classes and midwife appointments. We pretty much have everything we need for you except the safety gates and the BOB stroller. It is amazing how many friends you are going to have here at the childcare --we already have 2 confirmed families, one possible very interested and many meetings set-up so all is going well. We got the application through and are waiting for the family interview and home visit/inspection to finalize the childcare.
We just can't wait to meet you! Today I think I have been having some Braxton Hicks but I am not sure....I took a video of you hiccuping and have been trying to catch you moving but every time I get the camera out you stop! Oh you are so much like mommy and daddy already!
Only a matter of weeks until you come and we are so excited to be a family and see your smiling face :)
xoxo and we love you so much!
